How to Beat Hua, Deadly Betrothed in Phantom Blade Zero
Hua, Deadly Betrothed is the optional Weeping Creek Valley boss under the Valley Sha-Chi Tower. Here's the route to her arena, a loadout that ignores Bleed, how to read her flowers and red grabs, and the Scarlet Wraithblade plus Twin Flesh Lilies rewards.
Hua, Deadly Betrothed is an optional early boss in Phantom Blade Zero, hidden under the Valley Sha-Chi Tower in Weeping Creek Valley. Beating her drops the Scarlet Wraithblade and the Twin Flesh Lilies for Yu'er's Flesh Lily quest. She is also listed among the missable early rewards in our Phantom Blade Zero tips guide — finish her before Bai Chilian if you want that questline intact.
You can leave and come back stronger. There is no shame in clearing more of the region first.
How to reach Hua
- Rest at the Valley Sha-Chi Tower 1st Floor bell and refill HP and gourd uses.
- Head into the tower and look toward the back corner on the ground floor for the opening that drops into her path.
- Jump down and take the left path.
- Enter the lily clearing. A wedding cutscene plays and the fight starts immediately.
The Flesh Lily Fields bell in her arena stays locked until she dies, so you cannot ring it and walk away mid-fight.

Loadout before the fight
Hua is a living puppet, so Jagged Steel's Bleed does not apply. Bring whatever weapon you have leveled; range helps because she teleports constantly.
| Slot | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Main weapon | Sanguine Reach (or your highest-level Sanguine / alternate) | Reach covers her blinks better than short blades |
| Second weapon | Sanguine or Jagged Steel (higher level wins) | Swap when your Sha-Chi is low; ignore Bleed on Jagged Steel here |
| Phantom Edge | Dread Axe, at least level 3 | Chunk damage on punish; charge again when her Sha-Chi returns to about half for one last heavy hit |
| Accessories | Hunter's Insight, Battle Wraps, Token of Pursuit | Damage while she is attacking, flat damage, and damage on guard-broken targets |
| Defensive swap | Reflex Device | Wider parry / Perfect Dodge windows if you are eating grabs |
Weapon and Phantom Edge level 3+ is the practical floor called out in the fight video. Hunter's Insight sits near the lady's rift, past a collapsed bridge. Battle Wraps drop from the gold-mask enemy by the Red Thread Barrier bell. Token of Pursuit is at the Ruthless Archer Camp northeast of the tower. Reflex Device is in the chest at the Sha-Chi Tower base (needs the furnace crank from A Severed Mindseal), but that hatch area opens later in the story — do not count on having it for your first Hua attempt. See the tips guide if you still need that crank for a later run.
How the fight works
Hua stays mobile and mixes sword strings with arena flowers. Your job is to parry for Sha-Chi damage, avoid the blossoms, and unload only when her guard breaks.
Flowers
- Ground red lilies sprout during her attacks and explode after a short delay. Step out; they also chip Sha-Chi if you stand in them.
- Converging red ring. Floating red flowers close on your position and detonate. Create distance from where you were standing when the ring started.
- White homing flowers. Block or dodge them, then immediately defend — Hua often teleports in with a sword follow-up or grab as they arrive.
Sword cues
- Blue flash on an overhead slash: Perfect Dodge counter window. Landing it drains a large chunk of her Sha-Chi.
- Red flash: grab / Killer Move. Dodge it; blocking is not enough. She can throw this alone or inside a combo, and the damage is severe.
- Black aura heavy: dodge rather than block to avoid a guard break on you.
Punish window
- Parry her strings to break her Sha-Chi.
- When she is guard-broken, spend your best combo. If you have Sha-Chi essence, use the long blade chain.
- As her meter climbs back toward roughly half, charge Dread Axe for one more heavy hit, then return to defense.
- Swap weapons whenever your own Sha-Chi is empty so you can keep parrying.
Stay patient between windows. Keep carrying her attacks, avoid the flowers and grabs, and only unload during guard breaks.

After the fight
- Loot the Scarlet Wraithblade.
- Pick up the Twin Flesh Lilies near the pavilion — winning the fight does not auto-collect the quest item.
- Ring the Flesh Lily Fields bell now that it is unlocked.
- Return to Yu'er at the Outpost to turn the lilies in.
